Our Open Sangha is the heart of Urban Dharma, a welcoming space to slow down, connect, and explore Buddhist practice in community. Whether you are new to meditation or have an established practice, this is a wonderful place to begin or return to.

There is no charge, no commitment, and no expectations.

Each session begins with 30 minutes of guided meditation, followed by a short break with snacks, and then either a reading and discussion of a Buddhist text or a teaching from our Spiritual Director when he is in town. All levels are welcome, and no meditation experience is required.

During the break, we always share snacks, and you are warmly invited to bring something to share if you wish.

Come join, each Sunday, for a practice of Cleansing through Aromatic Smoke. We will read and meditate according to Tibetan Buddhist method for removing spiritual pollution & contamination. This is an especially good opportunity for anyone who would like to learn more about the basics of Buddhist practice. Come to smell, listen, or chant—according to Buddhist theory, any of these brings the benefits of the ritual, cleansing one’s mind and body. All are welcome.

What: Recovery Dharma is a peer-led movement and community that is unified by our trust in the potential of each of us to recover and find freedom from the suffering of addiction. We believe that the traditional Buddhist teachings, often referred to as the Dharma, offer a powerful approach to healing from addiction and living a life of true freedom.

We believe that recovery means empowerment, and we support each other as partners walking the path together. We believe that recovery is rooted in finding our own inner wisdom and individual journeys.

Drikung Dharmakirti International Sangha (DDIS) is a loosely-organized community of Dharma practitioners around the world who gather under Dorje Lopön Dr. Lye’s guidance to listen, reflect and cultivate the Buddhadharma as transmitted in the Drikung Kagyu Lineage. We gather weekly as well as on special occasions using the virtual platform of Zoom. Currently, we have members from across the USA, Mexico, Guatemala, Malaysia, Singapore, Ecuador, and Brazil.

Anyone interested should be able to fulfill the minimal commitment of attending every Sangha meeting each week (on Wednesday evening in the Western Hemisphere and Thursday morning in Asia).

The temple is open weekdays for anyone to visit, meditate, and study.
